Dr. Von Seggern is an associate with Lee Smart. His practice emphasizes civil litigation. He received undergraduate degrees in Chemistry and Biology from the University of Washington in 1986, and a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the University of California at Berkeley in 1994. Prior to attending law school, he conducted research into areas including animal development and gene therapy technology.
He received his J.D. in 2007 from the University of Washington School of Law. As a student he interned at Northwest Defenders Association and in the Berman Environmental Law Clinic. Before joining Lee Smart, he practiced at the Snohomish County Public Defender Association. Dr. Von Seggern is a member of the Washington State Bar Association.

- Berschauer Phillips Construction v. Concrete Science Services. - Division I upheld a King County Superior Court decision in favor of Concrete Science’s former attorneys quashing a writ of execution obtained by Berschauer Phillips on an alleged legal malpractice claim. Also obtained dismissal in a second lawsuit filed by Berschauer Phillips in Thurston County against Concrete Science’s former attorneys. Division II granted discretionary review after the trial court stayed Berschauer’s action rather than dismissing for lack of standing. After the Division I decision affirming the order quashing the writ of execution was rendered, Berschauer agreed to dismiss its second lawsuit.
