Ms. Downey is an associate at Lee Smart. Her practice emphasizes all aspects of civil litigation. Ms. Downey graduated from Florida State University in 1999 with a B.S. in Criminology and a minor in Philosophy. Ms. Downey continued her education at Stetson University College of Law in St. Petersburg , Florida . While at Stetson, Ms. Downey interned for the Honorable Judge Caddell and Honorable Judge Shames of The Sixth Judicial Circuit, Florida . Ms. Downey also worked as a certified legal intern for the Public Defender's Office and Gulfcoast Legal Services in Pinellas County , Florida . Upon graduation from law school in 2002, Ms. Downey worked as an assistant public defender in Sarasota County , Florida . Ms. Downey tried numerous cases as lead counsel at the Sarasota County Public Defender's Office, receiving acquittals and dismissed charges for many clients. Ms. Downey became a member of the Washington State Bar Association and joined Lee Smart in 2005. Ms. Downey is also a member of the King County Bar Association and an inactive member of the Florida Bar.
