Peter E. Sutherland is an associate with Lee Smart. He practices general litigation with an emphasis on insurance defense in the areas of motor vehicle accidents, premises liability and professional malpractice.

A native of Port Townsend, Washington, Mr. Sutherland graduated from the University of Washington in 1983 with B.A. degrees in both History and Political Science. He received his Juris Doctorate in 1986 from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. Mr. Sutherland began practice in Atlanta, Georgia, at the law firm of Long, Weinberg, Ansley & Wheeler, participating in the representation of major corporate and insurance defendants. Since returning to Washington State, Mr. Sutherland has participated in the defense of major medical-malpractice cases and criminal prosecutions. He also has represented plaintiffs.
