Tony’s practice includes all areas of civil defense litigation. Before joining Lee Smart, he was a 12-year police officer veteran working in the Seattle area.
Tony’s experience includes these notable cases:
- WSBA v. Huang – Defense of an attorney for a license violation and subsequent ethical violations. Jeffrey P. Downer and Tony S. Marinella defended their attorney client following several allegations levied by the Washington State Bar Association’s Office of Disciplinary Council. The client was facing years of suspension or possible disbarment, but following their defense, the suspension was ultimately reduced to less than a year.
- Lacy v. O’Day – Defense of an attorney in a legal malpractice suit. Jeffrey P. Downer and Tony S. Marinella won a motion for summary judgment in San Juan County Superior Court. Plaintiff sued Jeff and Tony’s attorney client for legal malpractice, alleging, in part, that she colluded with the plaintiff’s neighbors in illegally including an easement within real property documents. Plaintiff’s claimed damages were more than $400,000 in lost property value. Jeff and Tony successfully argued that the statute of limitations had run on all of the plaintiff’s confusing claims. The court granted the motion in its entirety and dismissed the action.
